Goodbye, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu...

The benefits of technology have allowed me to make very detailed plans and bookings for my trip, costing oodles of dollars, all without leaving the comfort of my study chair. As a consequence, I sometimes need to remind myself that it's not just a computer game - I am actually leaving the country on a jet plane in about 5 weeks time. A group of generous and thoughtful friends helped remind me of this fact when they recently took me out to a local Thai restaurant for a 'Bon voyage' dinner. It was completely unexpected, but very much appreciated. There were delectable dishes, drinks and gifts, as well as some helpful hints and advice from well-seasoned travellers. Thank you, danke and merci for thinking of me!

Plans are afoot...

Still 8 weeks out from departure and while I'd like to leave some activities up to chance, bookings must be made! So from the comfort and relative safety of my lounge room recliner, I managed to purchase 2 second row tickets to a Saturday night performance of Shrek - the Musical, which opens on London's West End this month. It took all of 5 minutes and a few keystrokes and my confirmation email has been received. Scary to think of the damage that can be done with a credit card and a computer.
