Begosh and beggorah...

My seven day Trafalgar tour of Ireland was jam-packed with sights and experiences. There were 7 Aussies among the 32 on the coach. The rest of the group were from the U.S., Canada and South Africa. We started by travelling north west from Dublin to Carrick-on-Shannon, where we were treated to a Shannon River cruise.

We ate marvellous scones and tea while being entertained by Irish musicians.

Our next stop was Boyle...on the Boyle River, of course. Boyle's claim to fame is that there was an abbey built there by Cistercian monks, dating back to the 1100s.

As with most of the buildings that represented Catholicism or the irreverent native Irish, much of Boyle Abbey was destroyed in 1649 during Oliver Cromwell's time as Protector of the Commonwealth. It is currently under restoration.
