On this day...

There are a variety of bus tours for visitors to London, many of which include Thames River cruises and guided walking tours in the price. You can use your ticket over 24 hours and they’re quite good value, until you realize that there’s just so much to see that you’d never fit everything in on one day. I took my place on one of the red double decker buses with an open roof, which is the only way to travel in the warm, sunny weather that London has been enjoying of late. It seemed fitting that the first major attraction on this tourist route was St. Paul’s Cathedral and the date was the 1st July - Princess Diana’s 50th birthday.
It was in this church that she married Prince Charles back in 1981. The cathedral is both imposing and breathtakingly beautiful, but being a place of worship, there is no photography allowed inside. I walked up the steps where the 19 year old Lady Diana had revealed her famous ivory silk wedding dress to the world 30 years ago and took a seat on a pew inside.

The vaulted ceilings, carved stonework and spectacular stained glass were awe-inspiring enough, then much to my surprise and delight, it was time for Evensong and the St. Paul’s Cathedral boys’ choir took their places and began to sing. The sound of those voices within the walls of the cathedral was unforgettable. What a privilege!
