More München

A visit to Munich is not complete without stopping in at the Hofbrauhaus. Those of us who remember the 1988 World Expo in Brisbane will recall the atmosphere of the German pavillion, which was modelled on this famous ale house.
There is the famous courtyard beer garden...

and several floors of eating areas and of course, the hugely popular beer hall, where musicians play traditional German music all day. Here's a picture of the beautifully decorated ceiling.
Decorated ceilings seemed to be a theme that day. We visited the Munich Residenz, which served as the seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918. It houses many precious art works and artefacts and the interiors are
incredibly opulent. Here are just a few ceilings.

Take a look along this hallway. These were the bedrooms of kings and queens, each one more fabulous than the last. Reminds me that I need to patch up the cornices at home.
