Wilkommen in München

Munich is a pretty amazing city. We stayed very close to the city centre, so we were able to access the sights on foot and with a minimum of fuss. This was the fabulous view from our hotel window.

I am not a "shopper" by any stretch of the imagination, but I could have spent several days looking at shops in Munich, because of the variety of the stores. The food and craft markets are fascinating and incredibly busy. It looks great, smells great and feels great to be there.
There are flower stalls...

cheese shops, bakery goods and a place to buy all manner of sausage products, huge gherkins and gingerbread.
There is also a place to buy a morsel or two of pork crackling, if your heart so desires. This is indeed a large bowl of crispy, baked pig skin.
A famous Glockenspiel is set in the clock tower of the Gothic style City Hall and the large town square floods with tourists when it plays. As it chimes, carved wooden figures move and spin for the cheering crowd below.

I like all the creepy gargoyles and in this case, the odd dragon.

Even large, old city buildings can look pretty with all the window boxes blooming for the summer season. There is much more of Munich to see.

It was a fabulous city 40 years ago but I would love to see it again. I couldn't get over the date on that Gate you are standing in front of something like 1109,
