We managed the 11.6 km Mont Blanc tunnel under the mountains with a minimum of fuss, which meant that we entered the tunnel in France and exited in Italy. We were still negotiating narrow mountain roads at ridiculous heights. This is nothing like any landscape I've ever seen before.
As we crossed the border into Switzerland, the valleys were lush and green and dotted with wooden houses that looked like cuckoo-clocks. We stopped for a picture and heard the clunking of the cow bells echoing in the fields. It was just like a picture book. We expected Heidi to come bouncing out of a goat shed at any minute.
We stayed in Bulle, in the Gruyère (more cheese) district and visited the Cailler chocolate factory. The Cailler brand and the Nestle brand both have long traditions in Switzerland and when they joined forces...the rest is chocolate history.
The Swiss living in the countryside are embacing the Summer in a big way. Almost every house has window boxes full of bright flowers and the gardens are stunning.
The hillsides look as if a perfect green carpet has been laid across them and there's a joke in the UK that the Swiss "mow their mountains." Well it's true. We saw it happening.
I'd love to post some more but I'm having trouble with loading photos. Hope I can rectify it soon.

Ahhh isn't it the most beautiful country in the world?
Are you using a laptop or an ipad?
We gotta have more photos.
Yes, Diane I have to agree - I think it is the most beautiful country in the world. Got my laptop. Works well in some hotels and not in others.
