Our road trip from Munich took us through the beautiful, green rolling hills and the small farming villages of southern Germany.
Louise (the sat. nav.) has a penchant for taking us off the beaten track, rather than along motorways, which does have its benefits. On this day, the main highway became one lane and passed directly under this building.
It was as if we were in travelling through Toyland as all the houses, restaurants and cafes were rendered and painted white, then decorated in the most exquisite way. Whole villages looked like dolls' houses.
We were headed for another tourist destination - Neuschwanstein Castle - upon which it is rumoured that Walt Disney's Fantasyland castle was based. It wasn't easy to spot on the mountainside at first, as the forest was thick and green and the weather was hot and rather hazy. But as we got closer, it was unmistakable.
The castle is reached by either bus or horse and cart from a tourist village half-way up the mountain. The car park was full when we arrived, so we parked about 1 kilometre away and started walking. Then after waiting in a ticket line for almost an hour, we were told that we would have a further 3 hour wait. Never mind! We were happy to enjoy the view from the castle grounds and once again, the views were spectacular.
King Ludwig built 2 castles in the area, but the yellow one just doesn't have what it takes to attract the crowds.

ORSUM, Dot Dot. Got your Matterhorn postcard today. V
Yep great shot as all of them are. You had gumption to wait so long for a tour of the castle. No way would we have done that. Bill only has to see the hint of a queue and he is off.
